Tribute From: CA Mukesh Vyas

Shri Jagan Nath Vyas-My Teacher

It is a matter of great pleasure that a website is being launched in the name of Late Shri Jagannath Vyas who is my “Tauji” and an inspiration for me and hundred others.

When I heard about launching of this website I could not control my feelings and requested “Bhai” Shri Anand Kumar Vyas that I want to share my gratitude to Bhasa ( in family we used to call, Shri Jagannath Vyash, Bhasa). I am thankful and feel privileged and fortunate for to to Bhai-Shri Anand Kumar Vyas and Shri Vipul Kochar for according their consent and giving me this opportunity to share my familiarity with Shri Jagannath Vyas.

Honestly speaking I am very much impressed and influenced by his well-disciplined life, his simple living, his wisdom, his spiritual heights and many more things which cannot be described in words. I have lot many things to share but I would like to focus specially on the versatility, he had, so far as knowledge of different subjects are concerned.

I used to go to Bhasa’s house since childhood, in the same manner in which the family children normally go to the relatives’ houses. Since I was a kid and was not aware of anything, rather did not have the acumen of even understanding, so could not realize anything about his knowledge and intelligence. I used to get his love and affection. My father always used to tell me to go to his (Bhasa’s) place and take his blessings which I followed blindly. My father was very happy with this habit of mine.

When I came in class XIth I had some queries and questions in accounting and banking. My father told me to go to Bhasa and said he would resolve all your problems. By that time I was aware that he was a teacher of Hindi, English, Philosophy, Political Science etc. With this understanding I was of the view that Bhasa would not be able to solve these questions and queries. But I did not have courage (rather we were not allowed to speak) to tell this to my father. I had no option except to obey his orders and went for the first time, for solution of my problems in commerce, to Bhasa. After paying regards to him I put my problems before him. He did not say anything and just had a look at the book and the problems which I placed before him. I remember his first reaction till date. He just said “Mukesh I am not a man of accounts and banking but since you brought these problems with expectation of solution from me so keep no worries. I will clear your doubts”. It was a surprise for me since he never studied commerce. He took few minutes and gone through the chapter. Then, he started explaining things to me. It was moment of a great astonishment for me that he explained the solution of accounts questions in a better manner in which my school teacher used to explain. I would say, with highest honesty, that I got the conceptual clarity in accounts after that first teaching from him. By gathering some courage I asked him how he could do the same when he himself was not a commerce teacher and never studied commerce and accounts. He did not give any reaction but

said “There is nothing in this world which you cannot do but for that you have to put your efforts. Every problem comes with solution. You just have to find that out after some practice and I did that only.” He then advised me to do practice and get the clarity of concept if at all I was to pursue some professional course. I had no plan to pursue Chartered Accountancy since there was no one in the family or in near relationship who was a Chartered Accountant. Even I did not know, at that time, anyone who was a Chartered Accountant. I do not know why he said these words “to do practice and get the clarity of concepts if at all I was to pursue some professional course”. Now, I realize this was his divine ability which sensed that I was going to opt for some professional course. A great man Bhasa was.

After my first session of studies it had become my routine, almost on daily basis, to visit Bhasa’s home. In graduation also he helped me, when I was in B.com second year. He guided me in the subjects like Economics and Banking in which I scored very good marks in my annual exams.

Before jumping on to my experience during my C.A. Course I would like to share one important aspect too regarding Bhasa’s teaching of different subjects. My elder sister did her M.A. in Philosophy and Political Science. Both the subjects were taught by Bhasa and she got first division in both M.As. She stood at third position in M.A. (Philosophy). My younger sister, who was doing B.Sc. -PCB- got guidance in Biology from Bhasa for all three years of her course. See the greatness, knowledge and intelligence of the man who taught Commerce, Arts and Science.

I joined my CA course in 1984 and in the course curriculum we had a subject OR-SADP in which one topic of logic was there. I had never read this so was not aware of the subject even. I did not know how to proceed, what to read and what to understand. My elder sister, who did her M.A.(Philosophy) told me to get the solution of topic from Bhasa. Without any delay I went and put before him the problems. To my surprise he, without wasting a minute, started teaching me the logic. With some examples he cleared all my doubts and by the time I left his home my topic was ready and things were conceptually clear in my mind. He was a genius, I must say. I have never met anyone in my life who had this kind of control on all the subjects be it commerce, arts or science.

Although there are so many other instances and experiences to share but I have to complete the writing in short.

However, I cannot complete this write-up without a mention about my first book titled “Auditing”. I prepared the script and wanted the same to be finalised after consultation with Bhasa. I went to him and requested to please go through the script so that I could get the same published. He instantly said no, I will not go through this script unless you come, on daily basis, at 9 PM i.e. after his evening Bhajans etc. I started going there in the night every day. He used to sit for about 90 minutes on daily basis. I used to recite the script and wherever the mistakes

were he used to instruct me to repeat the text. After repeated and patient hearing he corrected both the grammatical errors and the rhythm of the text. It took almost four months to complete the whole text. Somehow the publication got delayed and it was very unfortunate that the book was published after Bhasa left all of us for heavenly abode.

Throughout his life he was very caring and kind to his students. He has left remarkable influence not only on my life but also on the life of hundreds of his disciples. We, all the family members, are fortunate that a divine person like Bhasa took birth, by the grace of God, in our family. He guided whole family to follow the path of morality, devotion and dedication.

Thank you very much once again for giving me the opportunity to share my gratitude to a divine personality.
